Finnish sauna at Sauna Privada in Rotterdam
Step 1
Shower

Hygiene is very important, especially at higher temperatures. Before entering the sauna or steam room, start with a warm shower.

Step 2
Dry off

This lets the hot air in the sauna work properly on your skin. Entering the cabin wet counteracts sweating, and wet benches are not pleasant for you and your company either.

Step 3
Sauna or steam room (6 – 15 minutes)

Slippers stay outside the cabins. Sit or lie on your towel in the sauna with your feet at the same height as your bottom, so that your body warms up evenly. The higher you sit, the warmer it gets. Stay at least 6 minutes to open the pores and at most 15 minutes; sit upright for the last 2 minutes so you don't feel dizzy when you leave the sauna. For the steam room: at least 10 and at most 20 minutes.

Step 4
Cold rinse

Pay attention to your breathing and give your lungs enough oxygen. After steaming, take a cold shower: start at your left foot and slowly work your way up. Cooling down properly is very important.

Step 5
Rest and hydration

Rest sufficiently before repeating the procedure, and drink enough water.
